Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding Mourns Its Patron and Founder, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

With profound sorrow and grief, the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding mourns its patron and founder, the nation’s great departed leader, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who passed away on the morning of Sunday, 27 Muharram 1448 AH, corresponding to 12 July 2026.
The Award extends its deepest condolences and sincerest sympathies to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar; His Highness the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Thani; Their Excellencies the sheikhs and sheikhas, sons and daughters of the late Amir; all members of the esteemed ruling family; and the people of Qatar.
The Award was established through the generous patronage of the Father Amir and was honoured to bear his name, embodying Qatar’s noble mission to advance peace and mutual understanding among the world’s nations and peoples.
As we bid farewell to His Highness, the Award’s steadfast vision, its sincere and tireless work, its enduring contributions, and its far-reaching achievements stand as eloquent testimony to his many great accomplishments and as a lasting legacy of his numerous noble and blessed deeds, whose benefits have extended across Qatar, throughout the Arab world, and to the wider world beyond.
May God have mercy on the nation’s great departed leader, His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and grant him a place in His vast gardens of Paradise.
